An Engine Cadet on a ship is an apprentice, or trainee, seafarer who is at the very start of his or her career in the maritime industry. They are simultaneously onboard to work and to learn so that they can progress through the various seafarer ranks found in the engine room of a vessel. Since engine cadet is sailing first time on board . He will be directly governed under 2nd engineer . He act as a right hand for 2nd engineer . Every work second engineer assign him . He has to do and at the same time he has to assist 2nd engineer .. some daily routines are. Engine room tank sounding, general engine room rounds , frequent checking of machinery parameters , noon log , assisting 4th engineer in bunker tank soundings if 4th engineer permits.
